Meeting 1Meeting 1 starts the functional behavior assessment process. The meeting looks at:
1. information about the student 2. the behaviors that are concerning 3. which behaviors are primary and secondary (so we can focus on primary) 4. which behavior(s) the plan will address 5. how information about the behavior will be collected so that the team can determine the message/function/purpose of the behavior An action plan is begun so that those tasked with setting up the data collection process can get those tasks done on schedule. |
Meeting 2After data is collected and the team has determined a hypothesis (best guess) for the message/function/purpose of the behavior, the team develops a behavior support plan.
The behavior plan includes environmental supports, teaching new behaviors and reactive strategies. If the behavior warrants, a crisis plan (step-by-step description of what will happen if extreme behavior occurs) can be developed. The team also determines how data will continue to be collected going forward. The team identifies the immediate focus and long term goal of the plan. The action plan is continued. |
Review meeting(s)About two weeks after the plan is written, the team meets to review implementation of the plan and the data collected, and to determine how to move forward. The team continues to meet every two weeks to monitor the plan.
The team checks to see if the plan is being carried out as intended. Data is reviewed. The plan is adjusted as needed. The immediate focus and long term goals are reviewed. The action plan is continued. |
