Writing the behavior support plan
The file below is an overview of the FBA/PBIS plan. For more specific information "within" the plan, see the three files in the next section.
Writing the behavior support plan takes about 2 hours. Again, the facilitator will have to keep people on the agenda.

Writing the behavior support plan
Once you've collected your data and the analysis of the data, you will have a completed hypothesis statement. This will help guide you to create your plan. There are three sections of the plan:
1. Providing environmental supports. The purpose of these supports is to support the behaviors you want to encourage and to prevent the behaviors you want to avoid.
2. Teaching new behaviors: This section addresses the skills the student is lacking which causes him to use maladaptive behaviors to communicate his intent.
3. Identifying reactive strategies: This section outlines what the team will do when they see the behavior is coming or when the behavior is occurring. These strategies are intended to allow the teacher to get back to teaching and the student back to learning as quickly as possible. These strategies are not intended to be instructional.

Initially, the team will brainstorm ideas in each of these areas. Then, focus on the behavior you are targeting, the message the student is communicating, and the lagging skill the child exhibits to create the plan. For each element of the plan, consider using an action plan. Click the button to see an action planning form.

Develop the behavior support plan.
While it will definitely be located on the chart paper, there's a handy dandy form you can use to keep track of what's on the plan. We suggest that you hand-write right on it. Then you can make copies and share it with the team. Once the plan is written, consider your immediate focus. Knowing what the immediate goal is helps people decide how to respond to things in the immediate moments. This immediate focus is temporary. Click here to see more information about immediate focus. There is also a long-term goal that the team will be continuously striving to meet. |
We find it easiest to write these plans by hand as they are working documents. However, if you want to type on the form, you can. Be aware that the text boxes can jump around! We have included the form in Word and in PDF.
