The FBA process includes several steps. The meeting looks at:
1. information about the student
2. the behaviors that are concerning
3. which behaviors are primary and secondary (so we can focus on primary)
4. which behavior(s) the plan will address
5. how information about the behavior will be collected so that the team can determine the message/function/purpose of the behavior
6. a plan for the collection of the information
7. a time to hold the next meeting

If a person is at the meeting, they initial in the corresponding column. This form allows you to track participation across the process.

The packet follows the Meeting 1 process. The initial questions on page 1 can generate lengthy discussions. Typically you only need one or two (I suggest student strengths and greatest challenges). The team should come to agreement about those answers.

Just before meeting 2Before the team meets to develop the behavior support plan, a few people (usually facilitator, recorder, primary data collector) look at the information collected to create a hypothesis to share with the team. The team will be able to modify or change that hypothesis at Meeting 2.
**This step simply ensures that you will be able to consider the data collected without the pressure of the entire team watching. Once you've experienced the process and are confident in your skills, this pre-meeting can be done as part of Meeting 2. |
